Hey there fitness friends! I think if you’re anything like me, you’re forever searching for that one special fitness gadgets or a few special tools that will help make your workouts a little bit more effective, a little bit better, and let’s be honest, a lot more fun and enjoyable! With so many fitness gadgets out there, how do you know which ones really work? In this blog post I will share some fitness gadgets that really work, based on my own experiences and the experiences of others, as well as real-world results. Let’s dive in!
1. Intelligent Fitness Accessories
We’re huge advocates of these tiny terriers which are coming up right now — and for good cause. Recent devices, such as personal favorites like the Fitbit Charge or the Apple Watch, go above and beyond counting your steps. Whether it’s your heart rate, sleep cycle, calories burned – they do it all. I still remember the day I first strapped on my Fitbit even as we still talk about wearables today. I was more surprised by how much my wristband encouraged me to monitor and want to work towards my daily step goals. It was like having your own personal trainer right there on your wrist pushing you to [get moving] !
Why they work: They provide real-time information, which can encourage you to be more active, provide real-time monitoring of your heart rate to make sure your training is in your “target” training zone, and encourage consistency over time.
2. Best Foam Rollers
You might be saying to yourself “A foam roller? Seriously?” But listen! These cylinder-shaped objects can do great things to sore muscles after workouts. Think of it as a self massage that can be done in the comfort of your living room! When I first used this after a killer leg day, my life changed. I rolled out my quads while watching Netflix, and I felt like a completely different human after!
Some people also want to know: “How to use foam roller for back?” so, To properly utilize a foam roller and open up your back, you should position yourself on the floor, with the roller horizontally placed underneath your upper back aka NOT lower back, and cross your arms or cradle your head, hold your hips up and slowly roll your mid-back to your shoulders, you can do this for 30–60 seconds, but do not roll directly on your lower back, focus more on the muscles around it like your lats and glutes.
You can also gently arch over the roller to enhance your upper back mobility. Always remember to roll slowly, breathe still and deeply, and stop if you experience sharp pain.
Why they work: Foam rollers can help alleviate soreness in your muscles, help for back with flexibility, and help prevent injury by myofascial release which increases blood flow to the muscles.
3. Resistance Bands
You haven’t used resistance bands yet? You are missing out! If not, we’ll see you in Baltimore! Stationary but just as versatile, resistance bands are a great way to increase the challenge of your workout. They are most effective when you’re squatting, lunging, or toning your upper body. As someone who travels a lot for work, instead of packing a full set of dumbbells, I’ll pack a few bands—which’ll save me hundreds of gym trips. I don’t know about you, but that amazing workout convenience of being able to get a full workout in right in your hotel room…hard to beat that!
Why it works: Resistance bands provide the greatest constant tension on all of your muscles in all of your movements. This is huge when it comes to increasing strength, building tone and maximizing your workouts.
4. Wireless Earbuds
Let’s be honest – the music you put on to work out will absolutely make or break your workout. A decent wireless earbud will help you tune out distractions and get in the workout zone. I personally use Apple AirPods and I love them since it. They are so comfortable, and they do not fall out during certain high intensity training movements. I have an amazing playlist of pump up songs, and I can power through the last couple of reps with each beat as aшего encourage lyric.
Why they worked: Music has been proven to increase endurance, improve motivation, and elevate mood while exercise.
5. Smart Water Bottle
It is extremely important to be able to stay hydrated while exercising. Amongst all the numerous various activities of a day’s work, it is easy to overlook drinking water. Thank goodness for the smart water bottle. Some smart water bottles merely monitor sips, but my favorite smart water bottle, the Hydrate Spark, will light up and remind me that it is time to drink water. I had difficulty hitting my daily water target, and I can confidently say I am out of the hydration challenge stage!
How it works: Smart water bottle can prompt you to drink, and track your water consumption to aid in reaching your hydration requirements.
