Hi Everyone! Whether you are quite the fitness fanatic or only just starting on your health-journey, it’s never too late (or too early!) to refocus on your health. Today I wanted to provide some supportive and achievable tips on keywords you can implement into your life today to not just change your body, but to probably change your mind-set as well – woohoo! Wow, a simple word, WOW! I cannot emphasize enough the importance of drinking enough water each day! Keeping yourself hydrated can help your skin and increase your energy levels and brain functions! I would suggest having a fashionable water bottle you carry with you anywhere you go. It should be a fun accessory that reminds you to keep sipping a bit of water as you go about your day. You could even get a friend to join you in a water-challenge; I mean there is nothing better than a bit of competition to keep those hydration levels at ease!

2. Mindfulness Matters

In the breakneck speed of our daily lives, we can sometimes forget to stop and think. Including some mindfulness practice in your daily routine will help you enhance your quality of life. It could be as easy as a few minutes of meditation or even sitting quietly to clear your thoughts. Personally, I always like to start my day with a short meditation session so I’m in a positive mindset to face the day!

3. Don’t Skip Your Greens

Let’s talk veggies! I know, I know; the thought of greens can be uninspiring! Here’s my secret: get creative! Just throwing a handful of spinach into your morning smoothie or adding some colorful bell peppers to your lunch will create great benefits. Greens are low calorie and dense with nutrients that help fuel your body. And who knows, you may just discover something new that you like which will also help change your view on eating veggies!

 

4. Have Fun Moving Your Body

Let’s step out of the zone, “I’m here to workout”. Moving your body does not always mean getting into the gym and using it to its full potential. There are many activities that you can engage in, that do count as health benefits. You could have a dance party in your living room, go for a walk in the park during the day, or visit the beach and walk in the sand. My favorite way to stay active is to go for walks, and listen to podcasts. I feel like I’m working towards my health goals, while also consuming information that I love (aka snacking on podcasts). Be sure to make your movement enjoyable, and just be yourself.

5. Sleep Soundly Like a Baby

We all know, sleep is important, right? But how important is sleep to you? Getting a good night’s rest can really affect your mood and productivity positively. I encourage you to regard your sleeping routine as sacred time. It is okay to take a little while and develop a bedtime practice that helps you wind down; maybe it is a warm herbal tea, a good book, a spiritual reading, or a few uniform gentle yoga stretches. Your body and mind will truly thank you come the morning light!

6. Balance is key

We should also keep in mind that it is totally acceptable to indulge from time to time. Balance is critical. If you want to enjoy that piece of cake, eat it! Guilt-free indulgences actually increase happiness, and that is just as important as what constitutes a healthy meal. Think about your plate like an artist’s palette – bright colors (and nutrients!) and, especially, don’t be afraid to add in indulgences when necessary.

7. Connecting with Others

Health is not just about what we eat and how often we exercise; health is also about connections. Spend your time with healthy, positive people who take care of themselves and want to help you. Whether it is a workout buddy or someone to swap healthy recipes with, when we spend time and nurture those connections, we create a healthier mindset and lifestyle.

Setting health goals is fantastic, but make sure they are achievable. Instead of aiming to run a marathon (unless you want to, of course!), focus on smaller milestones like walking an extra 5 minutes daily or trying a new healthy recipe each week.
