Beginner-Friendly Workout Routines You Can Do at Home

Home Workouts for Beginners: Achieve your Fitness Goals Without Leaving Home!

Hey there, fitness beginner! If you’re reading this post, you’re probably ready to work out and not quite sure where to start. Don’t sweat it; beginner-friendly workout routines you can do at home you’ve come to the right place! Together, we will guide you through this thrilling experience and help you realize that working out at home can be enjoyable, accessible, and totally effective.

Why Work Out at Home?

Before we get into the workouts, let’s discuss the benefits of working out at home. For many, the gym can be daunting: often the travel time and membership rates can feel silly. Working out at home allows you to create your own workout atmosphere, which can help you be more comfortable and confident – no sweaty people, no staring & judging looks, and best of all, if you want to workout in your pajamas – who will know? Another benefit of working out at home is that it can give you the gift of time, and help you create a schedule with your workouts that fits your lifestyle.

Why Work Out at Home?

Let’s Start: Situate Yourself

To stay motivated and perform the workout right, we have to work on creating the best environment possible. Find a comfortable space in your home – maybe your living room, bedroom, or backyard. Remove clutter and give yourself a little space (a yoga mat would be great, if you have one, but a towel will do in a pinch), and perhaps even put on some music! Trust me, music makes a difference, especially when you’re having a hard time just getting the workout done!

With the space situation sorted out, let’s sort ourselves out! What do you need? Not much. A couple of dumbbells or resistance bands can be beneficial to you, but you can still perform a lot of very effective exercises using only your body weight – which is great for beginners!

Creating Your Beginner Workout Plan

Here is a simple routine to do at home, which should be done roughly 3-4 times a week. You can play with the repetitions you see below. Remember, the goal is to feel good and not overdo things in the very beginning!

Warm-Up (5-10 minutes)

Before getting to the meat of your workout, take care of your body with a warm-up. This can include:

  • Arm Circles: 1 minute
  • Leg Swings: 1 minute (30 seconds each leg)
  • Side Lunges: 1 minute
  • Jumping Jacks: 1 minute

Main Workout (20-30 minutes)

  1. Bodyweight Squats: 3 sets of 10-15 repetitions A great lower body exercise to strengthen your legs and your core!
  2. Push-Ups (or Knee Push-Ups): 3 sets of 5-10 repetitions Don’t worry if these are hard for you at first! Modify these from your knees!
  3. Plank: 20-30 seconds If you’re feeling bold, try to hold it for a minute!
  4. Bridges: 3 sets of 10-15 repetitions This one is awesome for your glutes!
  5. Mountain Climbers: 3 sets of 10-20 seconds A great way to get your heart pumping at the end!

Cool Down (5-10 minutes):

After completing the challenging portion of the workout, take a moment to cool down and stretch! This will help to recover the muscles and create flexibility and function. You can perform some gentle stretching with your arms, your legs, and your back.

Ways to Ensure You Stay Motivated

Starting a new workout can be challenging and you may begin to feel doubt, but remember ultimately you are creating progress and that is all that matters! To ensure you stay motivated, consider:

  • Set some attainable goals: Whether you are trying to do ten minutes of exercise in a row, or trying to complete a certain number of reps in a workout, even small goals can equate to large victories.
  • Celebrate your accomplishments: Did you do your workout today? Treat yourself! Hot bath? Get caught up on your favorite series?
  • Get some friends or family involved: Take a “workout buddy” with you! Working out together can allow you both to enjoy the experience and create accountability together.

Pay Attention to Your Body

One of the best pieces of advice I can give you is to pay attention to your body. It is absolutely okay to take days off or rest when you need to. Always keep in mind that fitness is a lifelong endeavor and the care your body deserves, is just as important as your workouts.

Final Thoughts

Congratulations on taking the first step to becoming a healthier you! Remember, everyone starts somewhere and the most important thing you can do is to keep showing up for yourself. Focus on just one workout at a time, before you know it you’ll be feeling stronger, fitter, and more confident!
